WORKS BY MARY BUCKLEY
Southern Breeze Gallery invites the public to a reception featuring painter Mary Buckley Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 5pm – 8pm. Mary’s canvases capture a sense of energy and freedom which she attributes to her recent move to the Gulf Coast. “When I was ministering to Hospice patients in Jackson, my color palette and subject matter needed to be very calm and steady.” says Mary, “Now, working on the coast organizing post Katrina relief efforts, I find the energy level and light in my paintings has really increased.” Mary Buckley was greatly influenced by her mother, the accomplished local painter, Ann Parker. Her natural talent blossomed under her mother’s private instruction and her eager desire to explore and experiment. “I start with an image in mind, but somewhere along the way the painting usually becomes something very different,” says Mary. “I try to enjoy the flow and not force the paint to behave in the way I want … usually the result is better than what I imagined” Mary’s images include landscapes and still lifes and typically employ a loose feathery brush stroke and a range of color pallets suitable for many different homes. Her work was recently added to the collection at the Mississippi Governor’s Mansion. The public is invited to meet Mary and view her art at a reception in her honor Thursday, May 3, 2007 from 5pm – 8pm. Southern
